Work is under way this week at our new bakery in Central Reading, the plumber is in to install the sinks and new flooring going down in the wash and mix rooms.
A larger space means we can up our bread and pastry capacity for weekend deliveries and introduce new items to the menu too! We can't wait to bring REAL bread to more people in Reading!
This expansion is going to require some extra pairs of hands, so we are looking to hire a weekend baker to support us on our busiest days.
You don't need to have professional training or experience, however we do need someone with some experience with sourdough bread and pastry, who isn't scared of hard work (the hours are long and physically demanding), who is a quick learner (there's only Nathan and I, so everyone needs to be able to do a bit of everything) and passionate about seasonal food and local produce.
We hope to offer paid internships in the future, but currently don't have capacity to train and develop someone from scratch, so if you don't know your way around a sourdough loaf or how to laminate pastry, this role isn't for you right now.
The role will include mixing doughs, shaping breads, helping with the bake, finishing products, making fillings, washing up, prep for the next day and potentially a bit of delivering too.
Hours will initially be 6-8 hours, Saturday - Sunday, ranging from 05.00-13.00, but additional shifts and extra hours may be required throughout the week. For the right person this could develop into a larger role.
We are proud to pay the National living wage to all our employees and in terms of other employee benefits, you can often find plenty of bread and pastries at the end of the shift that you are free to take home.
